Sunday 2nd August dawned fine and bright and at least one carload of paddlers were on their way from Sussex to Rodd Point in Sydney well before sunrise. This was the long awaited regatta known as “The Dobroyd Tens”. The River Dragons participated in two mixed races (there being only five male paddlers at the regatta, the rest of the crew of ten was made up by the ladies). Also we were in two women’s races in which, unfortunately, we could only field a crew of 8, plus the sweep and the drum. This resulted in a strenuous paddle but, despite their numerical deficit, the ladies showed their mettle and acquitted themselves admirably. All in all, a fabulous morning and we managed to gain a place (!) in every event against younger and stronger crews.
