September “naming of the boats” and interclub paddle

Saturday morning dawned cold and clear, turning sunny with a cool breeze by 8.30 when we met at the Chris Creek boat ramp carpark ready to walk the 10 and 20 seater boats from storage to the launching point near the confluence of Chris Creek and the main river.  An excellent turn-out from the other Southern Region Clubs, as well as Nowra Water Dragons who provided a third boat for the occasion, assured a great day’s paddling.  In the morning, after a “naming the boat” ceremony, we paddled the three boats around the island to show off the beauty of Sussex to our visitors.  After a hearty lunch of sausage sizzles, salads, cakes and coffee, the “Southern Warriors” crew comprised of paddlers from the various clubs embarked upon a rigorous training session in Dragonheart in preparation for the PanPac competition to be held in November on the Gold Coast.
