Dobroyd 10’s

Another big week for the “Sussex Inlet River Dragons”.  After a full week of training on both Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, as well as a Saturday morning session as usual for the members still in town, an intrepid group of 17 paddlers (12 women and 5 men) met at the Dobroyd Aquatic Centre in Rodd Park for a regatta known as the “Dobroyd Tens”.  Rodd Point is a scenic and historic part of Sydney situated on Iron Cove Bay near Drummoyne. We entered a number of 200m. sprint heats with ten paddlers, sweep and drummer, making up a crew of twelve in a 20 seater boat.  Although we faced some very stiff competition, all members of our enthusiastic team acquitted themselves commendably and managed a third place in the second mixed heat, being just beaten for second place in a photo finish.  There were no finals at this event because of the number of clubs involved, the final outcome being decided on the combined times for the two heats.
